Weekly color challenge

The weekly color challenge at http://icameisawicreated.blogspot.com/2012/03/creative-color-challenge-03-26-12.html  was to use Blushing Bride, Perfect Plum and Sahara Sand. Here's my card and it was something I absolutely did not intend. I was going to do another flower card when I remembered this cut file that my sisters and I did cards with a few years ago. The cut file was by Susan Edwards (what a talent!) http://spartansusscraper...r-easter-of-course.html (I couldn't find the link for the cut file) but I added the twist of putting a brad on the top part of the egg to make it "open". My sister had this stamp set we used before that had a cute little bunny and the saying "you crack me up" that I don't have, so I had to make do with some dollar stamps I had. I ordinarily would not have used grey for the sentiment on the inside but it did make it stand out a little (and there wasn't any Sahara Sand in the pattern paper!).

Rockin' Rene's Color challenge

This week's challenge at http://icameisawicreated.blogspot.com/2012/03/creative-color-challenge-03-19-12.html is to use Stampin' Up colors Regal Rose, Early Expresso and Daffodil Delight.

I've been seeing some cards on splitcoaststampers.com that don't have ribbon or stitching or a lot of embellishments, just a few mats and some flowers. I thought I'd give it a try and this is what I came up with. The vase is from Walk in My Garden and I put versamark on an old Stampin Up stamp that looks like cheesecloth and stamped it on top to give it a textured look. The flowers are from Cake Basics and Storybook. The sentiment is also a SU stamp

Rockin' Rene's Color Challenge

Here is my entry into the color challenge posted at http://icameisawicreated.blogspot.com/2012/03/creative-color-challenge-03-12-12.html
I couldn't believe it when My Favorite Things Stamps (LOVE their stamps!!) came out with this little Indian girl set because my sisters and I will be going to our annual Pow Wow soon and I couldn't WAIT to get my hands on this stamp to do a card for them! We haven't been since our Mom passed away 4 years ago so we are looking forward to being able to go this year.
Here's my card (I did one for each sister). I used Real Red (my absolute favorite red cardtock!) for the card base, for the zigzag on the tipi and background for the "banner" on the taller card, and Real Red marker for the headbands and stripes on the dress. I didn't have crumb cake so I used a cardstock that was somewhat lighter than a Kraft color and shaded it with SU ink to give it a weathered look for the tipi and used it to paper piece the dress. I also didn't have bashful blue SU paper, so I used this wonderful cloud paper called Sky by Creative Imaginations (have been finding myself gravitating toward their papers lately) because it looked very close to the bashful blue. I colored the little girl with Prismacolor pencils on SU whisper white paper. The tipi and fire were both from Create a Critter, probably one of my favorite cartridges. The grass is from Plantin Schoolbook. Now to decide which card to send to which sister! (and I have GOT to work on a lightbox!!)

Get well card for Great Niece

I was looking around for ideas for a get well card for my great niece who was recently involved in a car wreck (since my Good Old Days isn't working) and found a really great card done by Okie http://www.okieladybug.com/2012/01/old-boots-get-well-or-birthday-card.html
and it got me to thinking...I went to my scrapbook room and found some paper I'd bought at the Stampede last year. I had no clue at the time why I bought it other than it was just stinkin' cute. It's by Creative Imaginations and I think Debbie Mumm was the designer (part of the identification strip on the bottom had been cut off when I used a piece for something else but can't remember what or when). I cut out some of the boots, inked the edges with SU Creamy Caramel and pop dotted them on the front (can't see the dimension in this picture). I then inked the edges of the paper mat and cut the "Hope" from Home Decor. There are small, small blue pearls on some of the swirls in the "hope". I have a tough time with those little pearls in getting them stuck on where I want them and with no "glue boogers" hanging off. On the inside I cut out some more of the boots, inked the edges of a piece of Georgia Pacific cardstock and used a computer generated font that looks like rope for the sentiment. Of all the things about the wreck my sweet great-niece just had that upset her was that her doctor told her no dancing and she can't figure out why when her most serious injuries were to her arm. Sigh. Oh to be young again. She loves her country western dancing so I know she will like this card. I also cut out a boot, ran it thru the xyron and will use it as a sticker on the flap of the envelope.

Thank you card for my sister

This is a thank you card I made for my sister using the Baby Boutique cartridge (color in pic is a little bit lighter than it actually printed). The sentiment is computer generated, the tiny black rhinestones on the chandalier swags are by Recollections and the pink flower I found at Goodwill (Bag of 42 of them for 99cents). The sheer ribbon is a scrap piece. I wrote the thank you note on a sticky note and put it on the inside so that my sister could reuse the card if she wanted to. I bought a chandalier stamp and was going to stamp it on one corner the inside of the card but it was too big.

Card for My Favorite Things sketch challenge usiing Cricut Imagine Kate's Kitchen

I love the My Favorite Things Stamps, especially the Pure Innocence line. I did this card for their recent challenge and was happy with the way it turned out. If you go to http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showgallery.php?si=MFTWSC62&cat=&x=36&y=18 you can see all the cards done for this particular sketch. My card is a direct scraplift of http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/2158234?&si=mftwsc62. I thought that card was just too cute! I used Stampin Up Crushed Curry for the card base and the yellow strip across the middle. The remaining pattern papers and the orange mats were printed and cut with the Cricut Imagine, using Hopscotch for the blue sky and clouds and Kate's Kitchen for the "wallpaper", trim and windows. I love how the Imagine automatically sizes the pattern in smaller paper pieces so I was able to get the flowers in the middle strip much smaller. The flowers on the tiebacks were from the dollar bin at Michael's. The image was colored using Prismacolor pencils except the red shirt was done with a Bic fine point marker pen. His overalls are paper pieced using a scrap piece of denim paper in my stash.

DH Birthday card using New Imagine and the Buccaneer Cartridge

First my DGD birthday, then Valentine's Day, then our wedding anniversary and then DH birthday. WHEW! I was lucky enough to score one of the Imagines from WalMart on Black Friday. I've only recently begun to use it and man is it fun! There was a learning curve for me but I think this is my new best friend.

This is the card I made for DH using the Imagine and Buccaneer cartridge. I made the chest at fit to page and it was a bit big for his gift. Next time I will ink the cut edges to give it a more finished look. I could not for the life of me figure out how to do the keyhole piece so I looked on the internet and found an option...I just folded it in half and set it aside. I printed out a flag at 1" and also did a fliped image. Glued the flags together with a toothpick, put tape runner on the key or lock or whatever that other piece was (a handle?) and folded it and with the toothpick in the middle of it, it keeps the chest closed (altho next time I might do the layers option and make that one piece a little bigger than the chest). The front needs a ribbon or something but figured a bow might be TOO much? The inside was the scroll or parchment pattern paper (last paper in the booklet) but I couldn't figure out how to make it print the size I wanted. It's a square image and I wanted it as a rectange to fit the inside of a 4.25 wide by 5.50 card so I just printed it at 5.25 inches, trimmed the longer sides with my scissors (and tried to make it "tattered" looking). I then found a light brown and pumpkin colored ink spot from SU and inked the edges...it ended up matching REALLY well. Used a lot of pop dots, too
